MTC in the Classroom

Metro Theater Company Teaching Artists had a blast working with Flance Early Learning Center and Pershing Elementary this school year. In partnership with COCAedu, Education Director, Karen Bain, and Resident Teaching Artist, Gen Zoufal taught a residency at Flance in the fall and spring. Through storytelling and creative movement, students explored the world of gardening and sustainability. The fall sessions focused on harvesting and the spring sessions focused on new life.

Thanks to the generous support of the Arts and Education Council, Gen Zoufal and MTC teaching artist Roxane McWilliams spent five sessions this spring working with the entire Kindergarten at Pershing Elementary. This arts-integrated residency focused on the plant life cycle, gardening, and food sustainability. Students used their bodies, voices, and imaginations to creatively explore different books about gardening and to make connections to their own community garden. Students from both Flance and Pershing went to see In My Granny’s Garden to celebrate all they learned during their time with Metro Theater Company.
