In-Person and Virtual Classroom Opportunities

Metro Theater Company is thrilled to offer both in-person and virtual programming to enhance and support student learning. If you are interested in booking one of these programs, please reach out to Eleanor Marsh at eleanor@metroplays.org.

Building Community Through Drama

This program uses theatrical techniques to explore social and emotional learning, develop empathy, investigate historical and current instances of bullying/oppression, and connect students’ lived experiences to topics covered in social studies and literature. An introductory program includes five contact hours for up to 30 students for $795.

Arts Integration
Metro Theater Company works in partnership with classroom teachers to design and facilitate arts integrated lesson plans, which use highly interactive arts-based learning strategies to bring core curriculum to life. Customized programs that are developed to integrate with your curriculum are price-based on total contact hours with your students.

Examples:

Second graders in University City stepped into role as time travelers to learn about early explorers and environmental impact in tandem with their social studies curriculum.

Seventh graders in the Maplewood Richmond Heights District used theater of the oppressed techniques to examine times of war throughout history. Books explored included: Farewell to Manzanar, The Diary of Anne FrankBull Run, and others.

Workshops
Metro Theater Company offers a variety of options, including workshops that explore the themes of current productions, improvisation, acting, and creative drama.

Examples:

A creative drama workshop designed around a specific book, theme, or play. Recently, we created an online workshop centered on Leo Leonni’s Swimmy. Participants dove into the story through music, movement, and art.

Participants in a youth recovery program watched an MTC production, followed by a highly interactive theater-based workshop connected to the themes of the play. Students explored identity, communication, and collaboration through improvisation and movement.

Early Childhood Learning
Metro Theater Company teaching artists will engage early childhood students in literacy and learning through the arts. Through a blend of story drama, movement, music, and visual art, young learners can explore different themes. Past early childhood programs have focused on a variety of topics, from body control and sharing with friends, to life cycles and animal environments.

Professional Development
Education Director, Karen Bain, will design and facilitate professional development for pre-service teachers or working educators. Professional development programs are designed to get participants up on their feet as they demystify and explore arts integration techniques and envision where these strategies can be implemented in their own practice.
