Teachers Respond to Ghost
We asked educators who brought students to Ghost school matinee performances what they thought of the experience.
“Going to see these wonderful productions by Metro Theater Company allows our students to connect in ways beyond the written word or digital screen, to practice how to be an appropriate audience member, and gives them a chance to dream big dreams, just to name a few of the benefits. They need to know that it’s possible for them to become writers or actors or foley artists (It's a Wonderful Life). We really appreciate the opportunity these productions provide for our students.”
“Just the experience of being in such a ‘sacred’ space is enough to justify the trip for our students, many of whom may not ever attend a professional live theater event again. Watching the students react and engage with the productions. Sharing their reactions afterwards, their calm satisfaction at having spent their time watching something valuable and unique. Can't thank you all enough for continuing to set a national standard for theater for children and youth. We're so lucky to have you in St. Louis.”
“The play was well produced and was an experience that my students will remember for years to come. I think the intimate seating adds to the experience. I like how students who may have experienced theater for the first time had the opportunity to hear from the actors and be close to the stage.”
“Students loved it! It was relatable and touched on many valuable life lessons without being overly didactic. Our school got to talk with the actors afterwards and that was very special to get to see!”
“This is live theater as it should be done for youth. Engaging, with unique conventions that require the imaginations of the audience… The use of shadow theater, the creative use of movement to simulate the running, the intertwining of music with the action. All of these contributed to making a piece of theater that was NOT just the book come alive, but a truly unique artistic experience.”
