“The teachers were fun and I enjoyed being able
to choose the skit!” — Middle School Camper

Summer Camp 2020

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY IN THE ARTS is what
Metro Theater Company Summer Camps are all about.

“Something I love about Metro Theater Company’s summer camps is how focused they are on helping the young artists succeed. Because our camps focus more on the process than the product, our campers are emboldened to take creative risks. When campers feel like it is okay to fail, we really see their creativity take off. By the time we get to the performance at the end of camp, campers who started the experience uncertain if they wanted to perform at all sometimes end up taking center stage.” — Gen Zoufal, Resident Teaching Artist

Whether it’s playing with sculpture, storytelling, and song at Creative Arts Camp or learning how to audition for a play at Summer at SLU, Metro Theater Company’s (MTC) professional teaching artists bring fun and growth through the arts to campers of all ages. As one of St. Louis’s oldest and most respected theater companies, MTC brings the best in arts and theater to all of our camps. 5 things about our Grand Theater Camp at SLU for middle and high school students

1. Each camp gets to travel to Metro Theater Company to see a working professional theater company.

2. We are all about the process! We like to tailor each camp so that the students in the camp get to try different parts of theater so they can decide what they like best.

3. Erik Kuhn, our Technical Director and Production Manager, visits each camp to give a master class in stage combat.

4. Each camp has special classes and workshops. Last summer, we had workshops on stage makeup, stage combat, improv, audition technique, playwriting, and Shakespeare.

5. Our middle and high school camps take place at Saint Louis University where campers get the opportunity to use college level theater facilities. We even eat in the dining hall!

5 things about our Creative Arts Camp for Pre-K thru 5th graders

1. We blend the arts together! During a camp week, you get to explore many arts disciplines and then you get to see how they might come together.

2. We love the arts and we love water fun too! Each week we come together as a camp to splash around and have fun in the sun.

3. At the end of the week, we come together as a camp to celebrate and show off all the hard work the campers have done. Parents are invited to a sharing at the end of the week so they can see what the campers have been up to.

4. Creative Arts Camp welcomes campers as young as four all the way through 5th grade! We love having campers come back year after year so we can watch them grow as young artists.

5. New City School offers FREE early care starting at 7:30 am.
