Lighting Ghost

We asked Ghost lighting designer Jayson M. Lawshee how he used lighting to evoke emotion or deepen particular moments of the story. Jayson said, "One particularly impactful part of the show to light was the storage room scene. Ghost gets trapped in the storage room and I chose to give him really confining light to add to the feeling of claustrophobia that he starts to feel. He starts to think about and remember the day when he and his mom ran from his dad and hid in the same storage room. Another running (pun intended) theme in the show was the use of a dramatically different angle of light every time there is running on stage. This put shadows behind the actors and on top of the painted track which created a really neat illusion that I really enjoyed." Jayson is an incredibly talented senior BFA candidate at The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University. He also was the lighting designer for our production of The Girl Who Swallowed a Cactus!
