Like ice cream cake

Metro Theater Company’s Education Team recently wrapped up summer camp! We asked our middle school and high school student participants a few questions. Read what they shared!

How would you describe this camp to a friend?
I’d describe this camp as a lot, but in a good way, like ice cream cake.
This camp is a beautiful cluster of theatre and chaos.
It is super fun and engaging, you learn so much about yourself and theatre.
Super duper fun! Great teachers/instructors! I got to meet a lot of cool people and learn a lot about acting.
This camp is somewhere you can be yourself, and learn how to be a better actor.
An exhilarating deep dive in to the world of theatre, very instructive on the best techniques for monologues, creating skits, stage combat, and stage performing.
Fun and breaking out of my shell and lots of laughs!

Something you were proud of:
I am proud of the fact that I was able to make so many friends! I also love that I was able to think so creatively!
I am proud of the scenes we made for our parents.
I am proud of the improv scenes.
I am proud of everything I have learned, accomplished, and created.

Something I learned about theatre:
Improvisation and stage combat
I learned more about lights!
How to use space and character to make a scene more real.
I learned how to listen actively.
I learned that improv doesn’t mean always saying the perfect thing, just what’s right in the moment.
Good team cooperation

Something I learned about myself:
I enjoy acting.
I learned that I’m better at making friends than I thought.
I can make people laugh.

Something that surprised you:
I was surprised that everyone is really supportive and lifted each other up.
I was surprised by how awesome the newspaper costumes were considering the time we had.
Actually asking people for their numbers and texting them
Good salad
The amount of new friends and talented people I met.
The diversity of personalities and experience here! I loved getting to know them all.
Swimming is involved in theatre.

Your favorite part:
I really enjoyed doing stage combat, talking, and all the improv games.
Learning how to collaborate with others to come up with original scenes
Meeting new people and freeze game
I’m really indecisive, the whole week was wonderful and a great experience!
Being able to make friends through collaboration in creating and performing skits.
