Meet Laura Sienaski Lancia! She is thrilled to join the Board of Directors for Metro Theater Company.
Laura is a dedicated St. Louis community volunteer and a life-long lover of the arts. She has served on several St. Louis non-profit committees including the Young Friends Steering Committee at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis for the past 10 years, the Open Door Animal Sanctuary Friends Board for 16 years, and she is the Co-chair of the Humane Society of Missouri’s Purses for Pooches event, a committee on which she has served for 15 years. She is also a member of the St. Louis Symphony Volunteer Association’s Picture the Music Committee. Laura received dual degrees in communication and international studies as well as minors in marketing and French from Saint Louis University. She and her husband have a two-year-old son who already enjoys going to the theater!
We asked Laura a few questions about theater, her experiences with Metro Theater Company, the performing arts, and more.
What do you enjoy about theater?
I love that theater brings people of all backgrounds together and creates a sense of empathy. I also enjoy witnessing the creativity and magic that each role brings to the stage whether it’s the actors, set designers, costume designers, or directors.
Could you describe a favorite MTC memory or moment?
My favorite moments were watching my two-year-old son sit in amazement during MTC’s performances of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, Last Stop on Market Street, and In My Granny’s Garden. It’s so difficult to get a toddler to sit still for any length of time but MTC’s performances are so perfectly created for young audiences.
Why are the performing arts important for young people?
I believe it’s important for young children to be exposed to the performing arts because it creates within them a sense of wonder, imagination, and hope.
What are two fun facts about yourself?
I was a competitive figure skater for 11 years. My love of opera and classical music stems from this experience. My husband and I have traveled to five of the seven continents. I’m hoping to get to the last two very soon!
