A Trip to the Archives
Former Metro Theater Company Artistic Director Carol North and Content Marketing Manager Jennifer Lin recently went on a field trip to visit the Child Drama Collection at the Arizona State University Library. Documenting the international history of theatre for youth and theatre education, the Child Drama Collection is the world’s largest such archival repository, containing more than 9,000 books and dating back to the 16th century. The collection, an invaluable resource for scholars into the field’s methodology and pedagogy, includes materials providing theoretical and practical documentation on theatre education from preschool to high school, arts curriculum and training, standards and assessment, management and practices, artistry and plays for young audiences.
Many of Metro Theater Company’s historical documents are housed at the Child Drama Collection. Carol and Jennifer looked through many boxes filled with incredible MTC history to help gather information for the company’s 50th Anniversary Season celebrations.
Below are a few moments from Tempe! We were grateful to have reconnected with David and Sonja Saar of The Yellow Boat as well as artists of Childsplay.
Also, as a part of MTC’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, we are collecting stories from people who have been a part of our history. Learn more about how you can participate!
