Help a Student See Live Theater
We need your help to meet the Gateway Foundation Match that will enable students to see live theater for free!
Every year school districts across our region struggle to find the resources to both meet students’ needs and to diversify their students’ learning through the social and emotional benefits of live theater. Recent NEA studies show that experiences with live theater at an early age not only help young people build empathy and understand difference – it plays a major role in helping young people envision a future for themselves unconstrained by their current circumstances. In short, experiencing live theater for young people is a pathway to cultivating hope.
MTC is deeply grateful to The Gateway Foundation for a matching challenge grant to help inspire more people across our region to give to support that very cause: ensuring school districts with limited resources can give their students access to live theater at no cost. The Foundation is offering MTC $5,000 to support underwriting tickets for students to see Digging Up Dessa and Last Stop on Market Street at the Grandel Theatre at no cost – provided that MTC can match their gift with $15,000 in additional ticket underwriting support.
The good news is that as of late October 2021, we are nearly two-thirds of our way to the goal. Gifts of any amount can help us to achieve this goal. Will you consider helping?
Remember that for many young people in our region, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be nearly two years since they have been able to step in the doors of a theater. MTC’s health and safety protocols are in place to help mitigate risk for students, teachers, and all who attend our indoor performances this fall, with vaccination requirements for those medically eligible, masking, and reduced capacity in our theater to maximize audience distancing. Every $10 donation helps ensure one young person can attend a student matinee at no cost to them or to their school.
A gift of any amount between now and the closing of Digging Up Dessa on November 7 will be applied to this campaign. By meeting our goal, we guarantee that as many as 2,000 school children can enjoy free access to live theater again this year. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
