A few of our favorite things

We have a lot of favorite things at Metro Theater Company! Here are five that are a big part of who we are.

Accessibility
This year, we offered performances that were audio described by MindsEye, sensory friendly, pay-what-you-can, ASL interpreted by Deaf Inc, underwritten for schools in need (by Gateway Foundation and the Des Lee Collaborative Vision), and digitally streaming (made possible by PNC Arts Alive).

Artistry
As we navigated the challenges of the pandemic, Metro Theater Company brought you imaginative and inspiration filled moments - including the unforgettable music and imagery of Jacked! (the cast recording is available for purchase through your favorite streaming services), the smile-inducing wonder of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show / La Oruga Muy Hambrienta Espectáculo, and the emotionally charged performances by the cast of Digging Up Dessa.

Connecting With Young People
Metro Theater Company’s talented education team works with students and educators throughout the year. Recently a teacher at one of our community partners shared, “Collaborating with Metro Theater, even during this challenging COVID year, was such a joy! Metro created engaging ways to break down the walls and silences between students and connect them meaningfully and respectfully with each other, even when dealing with challenging issues like bullying and social justice. We are so thankful for their partnership with us!”

Creating Opportunities for Families and Friends To Be Together
Whether in person or virtually, one of our favorite things is creating unique opportunities for families and friends to be together.

An audience member of Jacked! said, “My 7-year-old daughter LOVED the development of the story of Jack and his mom and what happened with the goose and the golden eggs… the music, drawings, and voice talent just blew our minds! Thank you so much for creating such a ‘wow’ theater moment for us during a time when theater moments are hard to come by.”

An audience member of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show said, “I loved watching my daughter watch the show. She recognized all of the books and the animals and she enjoyed watching the books come to life on stage!”

An audience member of Digging Up Dessa shared, “I was very impressed! I thought the messages were very powerful and relevant. It sparked a lot of meaningful conversations with my son following the show too.”

Hope
Hope is one of our favorite things. And to experience hope, you need a little imagination. MTC artistic director Julia Flood said, “As Theatre for Young Audiences artists, we help young people imagine new worlds that may help to open them up to new experiences and new ways of thinking. It is a privilege and thrill that never gets old.” Thank you for being a vital part of the MTC family. We wish you much hope and imagination for all the days ahead.
