2022 Inge Festival

Metro Theater Company Artistic Director Julia Flood and MTC Associate Artist Jacqueline Thompson recently participated in the 2022 Inge Festival. Playwright Idris Goodwin (And In This Corner: Cassius Clay, Ghost, and Jacked!) facilitated Theater for Young Audiences panel discussions and workshops including “A Panel of Artistic Directors and Literary Managers share their perspective on new play development and the field at large.” The discussion featured Khalia Davis, Artistic Director of Bay Area Children’s Theater; Julia Flood of MTC; and Jacqueline Thompson, Director, Actor, Educator, and MTC Associate Artist.

Julia Flood said, "It is exciting to represent both Metro Theater Company and the field of Theater for Young Audiences at the William Inge Festival. Celebrating and amplifying the voices of playwrights, particularly those who are addressing the concerns of young people, speaks to the hope we all share in a brighter future."

The William Inge Theater Festival is unique in the world. It is the official state theater festival of Kansas, and it is dedicated to celebrating playwrights. At its core, it asserts that living playwrights matter, that their stories matter, and that those stories will bring us together and show us the way forward.

The 39th William Inge Theater Festival recognizes and celebrates Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage with the Distinguished Achievement in the American Theater Award, and playwright Gina Femia with the Otis Guernsey New Voice in the American Theater Award
