Metro Theater Company Announces Jessie Youngblood as Managing Director

Youngblood, who has served as Interim Managing Director since October 2023, brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of MTC's mission to her new role. As a seasoned arts professional, Youngblood has played a pivotal role in the organization's recent strategic reevaluation and has demonstrated unwavering commitment to advancing MTC's impact in the community.

“Jessie's leadership, her dedication to our mission, strategic acumen, and passion for the arts make her the ideal candidate to lead us into our next chapter." said Nancy Garvey, President of the Board of Directors.

Additionally, Metro Theater Company has made the intentional decision to cancel its spring production of A Year with Frog & Toad. Youngblood states, “Following our dynamic 50th anniversary celebration and a bustling fall season with events like the Fall Family Festival, a regional tour of Maddi’s Fridge, and beautiful production of Eddie & Vinnie, we recognize the importance of dedicating time to prepare for our incoming artistic director, as well as rethink how we're best serving young people in our community. The needs of young people have changed drastically since the COVID-19 pandemic, and we take our responsibility as a culturally responsive institution seriously.”

As previously announced, Artistic Director Julia Flood will also be retiring in June 2024 after ten years of exceptional service. "I am so grateful to be partnered with Jessie as we envision Metro Theater Company's next chapter and lay the groundwork for a successful artistic leadership transition." said Flood.

The search for the artistic director position will continue in the new year, focusing on finding a visionary leader who shares MTC's dedication to inspiring and enriching the lives of young people through the arts. MTC’s new artistic leader will be tasked with launching innovative projects, developing new works and programs, expanding education programs, and deepening community partnerships.

In her role as Managing Director, Youngblood will spearhead efforts to strengthen the financial foundation of the organization, foster collaborative partnerships, ensure the seamless transition of artistic leadership, and maintain excellence in the execution of MTC's mission to create transformative theater experiences for young audiences.

Youngblood expressed her excitement about the role, stating, "I am honored and thrilled to take on the role of managing director at Metro Theater Company. As we embark on the possibilities ahead, I am committed to working collaboratively with the new artistic leader, the board, staff, and community to ensure that MTC continues to be a vibrant force for positive change in the lives of young people."
