National Endowment for the Arts Grant
January 10, 2023
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has approved Metro Theater Company for a grant in the amount of $10,000 in support of Spells of the Sea!
This grant is one of 1,251 Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling nearly $28.8 million that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants. “The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts projects in communities nationwide,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “Projects such as this one with Metro Theater Company strengthen arts and cultural ecosystems, provide equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, and contribute to the health of our communities and our economy.”
Metro Theater Company Managing Director Joe Gfaller said, “The National Endowment for the Arts has been an important, generous, and consistent supporter of Metro Theater Company since the theater’s earliest years. This year, the NEA’s support of Spells of the Sea will ensure that this world premiere musical can shine in St. Louis – both on stage at The Grandel starting February 5 and streaming worldwide. We are humbled that the NEA shares in our enthusiasm for this beautiful musical to impact the lives of young people and families. Thank you, NEA!”
Congratulations to several St. Louis nonprofits who also have been approved for a NEA grant, including the Center of Creative Arts (COCA), Cinema St. Louis, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Pianos for People, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, St Lou Fringe, The Big Muddy Dance Company, St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, and more!
