2014–2015 Young Playwrights for Change

Metro Theater Company is looking for plays by young writers in 6th – 8th grades. As part of the national competition, Young Playwrights for Change, finalists may see their work in a local staged reading or even win a trip to the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

We are challenging young playwrights to explore this year’s topic: “What is Family?” We see all kinds of family structures all around us. Families blend races, cultures, sexual orientations and generations. People come to families through adoption, birth, marriage and in many other ways. What makes a family? Why is family important?

All plays must be no longer than ten minutes and have no more than six characters. They should be submitted to Metro Theater Company no later than Friday, January 16, 2015. For guidelines and tips please check out the official website or email Resident Teaching Artist, John Wolbers, at john at metroplays dot org.

Young Playwrights for Change is sponsored by Theatre for Young Audiences USA (TYA/USA) and the American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE).
