St. Louis Super Heroes

In one scene in And In This Corner…Cassius Clay, a friend of Cassius laments that there are no black superheroes; young Cassius replies that he will be the first. In our own hometown, we are fortunate to have all kinds of ST. LOUIS SUPERHEROES who make our community better by using their strengths to serve others. These SUPERHEROES inspire all of us with their actions.

Metro Theater Company will celebrate nine ST. LOUIS SUPERHEROES during the run of And In This Corner…Cassius Clay, dedicating one weekend performance to each. Confirmed honorees at press time include Jaylen D. Bledsoe, exemplar of the power of youth to achieve and inspire; Diane Davenport, teacher of music and theater, and crusader for arts education; Circuit Court Judge Jimmie Edwards, defender of families struggling through the ills of poverty; Ronald L. Jackson, advocate for children, dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism; Timothy O‚ÄôLeary, leader of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and champion of using the arts to surmount cultural and faith divides; and Cheryl Maayan, guardian of childhood committed to student learning that is significant and meaningful.
